Overflowing with wealth?
I believe Chris Moncrieff's comment (opinion, page 13, 31 May) that most voters are only concerned with what they have in their pockets is wide of the mark.
I believe Chris Moncrieff's comment (opinion, page 13, 31 May) that most voters are only concerned with what they have in their pockets is wide of the mark.
His premise seems to be based on the Thatcherite notion that people are only motivated by personal gain and that any feeling for the general good of society is an anathema. Fortunately, as the general election result will no doubt show, this view is outdated.
Most people are aware that good public services do actually cost money.
It is only the increasingly marginalised right wing Conservative Party that subscribes to the idea that most people couldn’t care less about the common good.
