BEGBIES TRAYNOR’S group chairman is to step down next week, Accountancy Age has learned.
Nick Hood (pictured) has been with the insolvency firm for nearly 24 years, 11 as chairman of the network. One of the profession’s most well-known figures, he will step down from the firm and the international network at the beginning of April.
The international network is now looking at how best to operate the network following Hood’s departure, Accountancy Age understands.
Hood qualified as a chartered accountant in 1970 and worked in the profession in the UK and Canada until 1974. His career has been varied, working as a corporate finance executive at Singer & Friedlander, before becoming CEO at listed companies SEP Industrial Holdings, then Cargo Control.
He joined listed firm Begbies Traynor in 1990 as partner, working his way up to senior London partner. He took on the role of chairman for the global network in 2003 and is responsible for the strategic development, maintenance and management of the network – which has more than 150 affiliated firms in 110 countries.
Accountancy Age understands that he will step down from Begbies Traynor entirely, but will continue to work as head of external affairs for data research business Company Watch, a role he has held for nearly three years. He will also continue his role as non-executive director at Kain-Knight.
A statement from Begbies Traynor said: “Nick has been a valued member of our team for many years. As a colleague and friend, we wish him well in his plans to reduce his portfolio of business activities but we look forward to staying in touch with him as he has agreed to continue to lend us his extensive contacts and technical knowledge on a consultancy basis.”
