UK200GROUP members have a headstart on the UK’s Olympic torch bearers.
In a bid to raise £50,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, 27 member firms have carried an “Olympic-style” torch for the charity prior to it reaching the Olympic Stadium in November for the group’s annual conference.
Any mode of transport is allowed, apart from modern cars. The torch has travelled to destinations as diverse as Perth, Harrogate, Derby and Newport; a tractor is being used to transport the torch to Stroud.
Rees Russell will transport the torch by gyrocopter to the offices of Peplows in Newton Abbott.
Firms involved include Bell & Co, Mitchells, Holeys and Smailies Goldie.
“We are delighted UK200Group has chosen Alzheimer’s Society to benefit from its epic fundraising challenge. What an exciting and novel way of raising funds ahead of London 2012,” said Ray Nash, area fundraising manager for Alzheimer’s Society.
“We wish all the participants the best of luck.”
