New PAYE system has led to an increase in wrong PAYE codes issued to taxpayers, according to UHY Hacker Young
HM Revenue and Customs raked in an extra £238m because of tax code errors.
The taxman’s PAYE system has suffered teething problems since it was
introduced.
UHY Hacker Young said that the system has led to an increase in wrong PAYE
codes issued to taxpayers, and said the overcharging was ‘unacceptable’,
according to the
Guardian.
However, the amount overcharged is a fraction of the £250bn the taxman
collects annually through PAYE.
