Critchleys helps English Hockey net £300,000 VAT refund
Thames Valley firm assists sporting body in clawing back VAT for member clubs on their affiliation fees
VAT experts from Critchleys have helped secure a VAT refund of more than
£300,000 for hockey clubs on the subs they pay to their governing body English
Hockey (EH).
EH had previously been required to charge full VAT on affiliation fees to
member clubs, because the taxman said an exemption did not apply unless the
charges were made to individuals.
The Thames Valley firm assisted English Hockey finance director Ian Wilson in
brokering the deal with the taxman.
Critchleys said the challenge for English Hockey was to negotiate a refund
for the clubs without denting EH’s ability to recover VAT on expenditure.
