Pre-Budget statement: Brown widens low CGT rate

The rate of Capital Gains Tax is to be reduced from 40p to 10p for venture capitalists and non-training ventures.

The announcement in the Pre-Budget Report follows widespread complaints that the 40p rate has been crippling investment.

Tax experts have predicted that the move will encourage further investment in that area of the market.
