Research cost is off-target.

A new CIMA report has warned of a significant gap between the funding and costs of academic research. The report said that for externally-funded research, higher education institutions received a range of contributions to indirect costs depending on the type of sponsor but in most cases the cost of the research outstrips the price put on it. Ian Haythornthwaite, pro vice chancellor of the University of Central Lancashire, said: ‘Institutions fail to get the right price because they are unable to demonstrate exactly how much research costs.’
