Back, 42, a CIMA-qualified accountant is expected to take on the new post on 4 November and will replace Martin Gatto who is retiring in mid-October.
Gatto will continue to do work for the finance function at Somerfield until the end of the year.

He has a reputation as an excellent hands-on operator whose commercial experience will contribute significantly to the company’s recovery programme.’
