Budgens FD swaps his shopping bags

Steven Back, the group finance director at supermarket group Budgens is moving on to its competitor Somerfield, the UK's fifth biggest supermarket group, to take over the running of its finances.

Back, 42, a CIMA-qualified accountant is expected to take on the new post on 4 November and will replace Martin Gatto who is retiring in mid-October.

Gatto will continue to do work for the finance function at Somerfield until the end of the year.

John von Spreckelsen, executive chairman at the listed supermarket group, said: ‘I am delighted to announce Steven Back’s appointment as the company’s new finance director. He has a reputation as an excellent hands-on operator whose commercial experience will contribute significantly to the company’s recovery programme.’
