Budget 2004: Revenue and Customs to merge

The government will merge the Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise in a move to save money and improve efficiency.

A total of 10,500 staff will be made redundant in a move to save 5% of the department’s budget.

The Deparment of Work and Pensions will also be cut by a total of 30,000 staff.
