The moves were revealed in an interview with EU budget commissioner Michaele Schreyer in the German newspaper Handelsblatt. She claimed that such a move would boost ‘transparency’ in EU taxation, given that increasing amounts of money are transferred to Brussels.
The suggestion has been framed in a draft policy paper, which may receive commission approval next week (10 February). The proposal will be controversial; it has already been opposed by Germany.
