Deloitte admits losing client information on airline

The US branch of Deloitte has admitted that it lost a CD containing
unencrypted personal details of more than 9,000 employees at audit client
McAfee. The disk was left by an auditor in the back of an airline seat in
December, but McAfee was not informed by Deloitte until nearly a month later.

The CD included names, social security numbers and details of shareholdings
in McAfee. The company has arranged for employees to get two years’ free service
from credit reporting agency Equifax, to help them avoid becoming victims of
data theft.
