Accountancy advice and lipstick do mix
UK's Avon ladies are carefully watching their colleagues in Canada this week after they announced they would be selling accountancy advice in addition to their usual beauty products.
The Canadian arm of the cosmetics company is set to launch a service named My Advantage in the New Year in which customers will be referred to approved accountancy firms for advice.
It is understood some firms may have agreed to give free initial consultations.
Traditionally accountants have been the first to diversify offering a wide range of services from IT consultancy through to sustainability issues. But there appears little indication that accountants will soon be advising on makeup.
My Advantage will include referrals to a host of professional services including legal, insurance, travel and even plumbing.
In Britain a spokesman said the UK Avon finance department was ‘aware’ of the Canadian innovation. However, it appears British Avon ladies are unlikely to be expanding their skills base yet.
