Accountant takes over at Chelsea FC

Chelsea Football Club has today revealed its new managing director is to be a former professional footballer who quit the game to become an accountant.

Trevor Birch, 44, is set to take over from long-standing MD Colin Hutchinson who announced his intention to step down in December after 15 years at the club.

Birch, an accountant with insolvency experience, will will work alongside Hutchinson for two months before taking over in May.

He was the last signing made by the Liverpool’s managerial legend, Bill Shankly in 1974 and is reported to be ‘itching’ to get back into football after taking a 20 year break from the game.

Nobody was available at Chelsea for comment.
