Budget 2003: More doctors and nurses for NHS

Gordon Brown has promised that by 2008 there will be 80,000 more nurses employed in the National Health Service and 25,000 more doctors.

The move is part of his drive toward full employment, and will be funded by the rise in National Insurance contributions that came into effect last week.
