Court hears how accountant stole from NHS

He fled to Thailand after committing fraud

Buckley, 38, an accountant from Plantation Drive
, Ellesmere Port in Chesire
fled to Thailand after stealing £339,000 of NHS money, a court has heard.

Buckley used a web of lies including telling a friend that he was going on a
six-month SAS expedition, a
Chester Crown
Court
heard.

At the time of the fraud, Buckley had been working for a temporary staff
recruitment agency and was on placement at Cheshire Health Agency, based in
Chester.

Having been promoted to head of payment services at the agency, on 15
February, Buckley transferred £339,100 from the agency’s account to his own
current account.

The following Monday he did not arrive for work.

He was tracked down to Thailand. On 27 February, Buckley surrendered himself
to police at Heathrow Airport.
