Allsport installs Web interface
International photography agency Allsport has installed a Web browser-based interface that allows it to automatically account for sports pictures sent around the world over the Internet, writes Nick Huber. The Web-enabled system uses software provided by US-based financial software specialist Maconomy. Clients with ISDN lines and Internet access can retrieve over 175,000 digital images from Allsport’s password-controlled archive intranet. After deciding to buy a photo, customer credit information is checked on Oracle Enterprise database.
Staff then transfer the sales-order details to Allsport’s Maconomy accounting system. The Internet-based system replaces Allsport’s minicomputer-based accounting package. ‘The whole point of Web integration is that you can get pictures from anywhere in the world,’ said Paul Hipscard, managing director of Maconomy in the US.
