    EU to settle SEPA payments deal

    EU ministers set to seal Single European Payments System deal today

    ministers are set to finalise the details for the Single European
    Payments System today.

    ‘We will have a compromise on this in council, so we can get
    it through on the first reading in (the European) parliament,’ a source told
    Irish website
    BusinessWorld
    .

    If the talks go ahead as planned, a directive securing the
    SEPA infrastructure could be in place by January 2009.

    SEPA
    would allow individuals and businesses to use payment cards and make bank
    transfers across the EU under the same terms as in their home country.
