Treasury's head of finance professionalism to be promoted to deputy director of finance at the Department for Work and Pensions
The government’s head of ‘finance professionalism’ team has been promoted to
deputy director of finance at the
Department for Work and
Pensions.
CIPFA-qualified Mal Singh is leaving the Treasury as head of finance
professionalism to serve as deputy director finance strategy and communications
at the DWP.
He joins a department that is struggling to file an unqualified set of
accounts. The National Audit
Office gave a qualified audit opinion for the DWP 2007/08 accounts due to
concerns over the level of fraud and error in benefit payments.
CIPFA chief executive Steve Freer said Singh should be ‘proud’ of his work
and the role has become increasingly important. ‘Getting good financial
management and professionalism in the civil service is not a finished project by
any means.’
