Microsoft has hired an official from the European Commission who was involved in the anti-trust case against the software giant. Detlef Eckert, is joining Microsoft to work on its Trustworth Computing project.
Microsoft says it is doing nothing wrong as Eckert will be working in a business unit that aims to improve the security of the company’s software and will not be involved in lobbying.
A period of comparative peace with few viruses released may be over with news of a destructive new worm. Trend Micro has warned that Winevar targets Windows systems and has the potential to delete files. The worm propagates using its own Simple Mail Transfer Protocol engine and sends emails to addresses it gathers from infected systems. Trend Micro says the email arrives with ‘N’4’ in the subject line and two attachments – one a GIF, the other a TXT file.
