Deloitte appointed administrator as property conveyancer collapses
Deloitte’s Leeds practice has been appointed administrator to Hammond Support
Services Ltd, the parent company of conveyancing firm Hammonds direct.
Deloitte partners Adrian Berry and Dan Butters said they were forced to make
230 of HSSL 243 staff redundant immediately. They are in talks to sell all of
part of the company as a going concern.
Hammonds Direct is not subject to the insolvency proceedings – in a 2001
restructure it transferred to its parent HSSL those conveyancing processing jobs
that do not require solicitors.
The administrators said HSSL had been hit both by the collapse of the
residential property market and Bank of England rate cuts, which led to less
re-mortgaging work.
