Budget set for 16 March

Gordon Brown to set out spending plans before predicted May election.

The Treasury has announced that the Budget will be delivered to the House of Commons on Wednesday 16 March at 12.30pm.

In what will be the last Budget before a general election, chancellor Gordon Brown is likely to lay out the battleground for the election through tax and spending. The election is widely predicted to take place on 5 May.
