Pre-Budget statement: Fuel duty to be frozen
The chancellor is to freeze excise duties on fuel and will hold it for another year if fuel prices remain high.
He said this would be at a cost of #560m next year, at the going rate of an increase of 1.5p per litre.
Brown also proposes to cut excise duty on ultra low sulphur petrol by 2p from 2001, a total of 3p.
He also intends to cut duty of ultra low sulphur diesel.
