Was the Finance Bill worth the weight?
Gordon Brown adds weight to his Finance Bill.
It was revealed this week that Chancellor Gordon Brown’s 342-page, 172-clause-and-20-schedule Finance Bill and Explanatory Notes weighs 2.20 grammes or just under 5lbs.
No doubt it is more than worth its weight in gold to the Treasury, but others may take a different view – like the perspiring staff of the Commons Vote Office. They are required to manhandle sufficient copies of the Bill into their basement store to hand out a set to each MP, political reporters and sundry aides and advisers.
