Former charity commissioner joins Grant Thornton

Former charity commissioner and chair of the charity finance directors group joins growing not-for-proft group at Grant Thornton

Grant Thornton has appointed former charity commissioner David Taylor its
charities and not-for-profit group.

Taylor retired as charity commissioner in April this year and will join the
firm in January 2006 to work alongside Michael Rogerson and Carol Rudge, joint
heads of Grant Thornton’s charities and not-for-profit group.

Taylor spent five years at the commission, and has also held a number of
high-profile positions, including deputy chief executive and director of finance
at WWF-UK, treasurer of NCVO, chair of the charity finance directors’ group,
director of the charities consortium and a director of the international
fundraising group.

He also has experience of small charities in various roles including as a
consultant, independent examiner, trustee and school governor. In the corporate
world he has held posts as group FD of Trafalgar House and the Guthrie
Corporation.

Taylor said he had been impressed by Grant Thornton’s ‘commitment to the
charity sector’ and that he was ‘delighted’ to be joining the team.

‘Charities face a challenging time with recent and anticipated changes in
governance and accounting placing demands on their resources,’ he said.

‘I aim to help Grant Thornton’s clients achieve best practice in these areas.
I am also a strong supporter of trustee boards with a balance of skills and of
high quality and so was delighted when Grant Thornton set up the charity
business exchange. I look forward to helping to develop this initiative.’
