Top UK bosses get inflation-busting pay rises

The heads of the UK's top listed companies received an average pay rise of 11.5% last year a survey has revealed, nearly four times wage inflation, inflaming arguments that executive pay should me more linked to performance.

The study of FTSE 100 chief executives by New Bridge Street Consultants found that the average base wage rose by almost 10% alongside an average £284,600 in share and options.

Those with the biggest rises included John Clare at the Dixons group, who saw his total pay rise to over £1m from £574,000 the previous year, and Paul Walsh at Diageo, with an earnings jump of nearly 40% to over £2.2m.
