Business disappoints Higgs on governance

Derek Higgs, author of reforms to the governance code, has criticised companies that are not following the spirit of the new rules.

Without naming names Higgs told a European conference in the Netherlands on Monday that certain companies were ‘going through the motions’ but not embracing the spirit of the code.

Higgs said: ‘That is cynical and disappointing but true,’ reported The Financial Times.

The former investment banker was commissioned last spring to look into the role of non-executive directors.
