Heavy penalty for unlicensed fleet drivers
Employers that allow unlicensed drivers to operate fleet vehicles risk heavy fines and possible prosecution, the Department for Transport has warned.

This followed the DfT’s research into unlicensed driving, which found that drivers were spending 553,000 hours a month driving unlicensed vehicles.
The DfT warned: ‘Employers have a responsibility to ensure that their employees are driving legally and are properly licensed if their job involves having to drive.’
Employers should check that new employees are properly licensed when they join the company, while period checks should be carried out afterwards, the DfT said.
