Durgan, who is chief executive of Durgan Monstein, was chosen by a vote of the body’s governing body. He qualified as a member of the institute 22 years ago and was first elected to the ICAEW council in 1995.

He said: ‘I am delighted to be elected as the institute’s new vice-president.’

Durgan will take over from the current incumbent, Ian Morris, at a ceremony on 8 June.
