Chirac promises further tax cuts
French president Jacques Chirac has followed up on his promise to reduce income tax by 30% during his five-year term by telling his government to cut taxes in 2006.

However, Chirac added that there would be a ‘pause’ in his tax cutting plans over the next 12 months because of the ‘urgent budgetary position’. France has one of the highest tax rates in Europe and has already seen income tax drop by 10% between 2002 and 2004.
