HM Revenue and Customs has appointed Simon Bowles as its chief financial
A spokeswoman for the department said the appointment was effective from 17
The CFO post was previously held by Stuart Cruikshank until March 2008 and
then in the interim by Phillip Moore who left the post in July 2008.
In November last year, HMRC officials were forced to defend Cruickshank’s
£88,000 payout for breaking his contract.
The House of Commons Treasury Sub-committee criticised the payout, which was
thought to include Cruickshank’s legal advice and ‘outplacement counselling’.
"The whole idea of HMRC officials supplying confidential information about individuals to the media on a non-attributable basis is, or should be, a matter of serious concern," say Supreme Court judges
