Plea for release of Filipino accountant

The Philippine foreign secretary, Alberto Romulo, has appealed for the immediate release of a Filipino accountant being held by an unknown group in Iraq since November.

Last Friday, the Arabic television network al-Jazeera reported that kidnappers had released Roberto Tarongoy, but it later withdrew the report.

In a recent press conference, Romulo said the government would use its own resources in trying to secure Tarongoy’s release.
