Private equity group makes offer for Waterford Wedgwood

Sit-in strike goes into third night

Deloitte could find its job as administrator of Waterford Wedgwood a little
easier with US-based private equity firm Clarion Capital making a bid for the
troubled Irish glassware and crockery group.

Staff at the Waterford County factory are preparing to stage the third night
of a sit-in strike after Deloitte said that unless a buyer could be found, the
plant would have to close, costing 480 jobs.

If Clarion’s bid is accepted, it would keep the factory open and retain up to
300 jobs.
