Deloitte would settle Parmalat claims

Deloitte says it would settle out of court if settlement were less or equal to the legal costs

Deloitte has said that it would be prepared to settle claims against it over
the collapse of Italian dairy group Parmalat – if the settlement were less or
equal to the legal costs.

Deloitte, one of Parmalat’s two auditors, is strongly contesting the $10bn
lawsuit, saying that not only was it not responsible for the fraud, it uncovered
it.

Chief executive William Parrett has been quoted as saying: ‘We think we’ll be
proven not to be responsible for the Parmalat matter.

‘We expect to defend ourselves to the fullest, and we expect to win. We
didn’t perpetrate the fraud: we were a victim of it, and we uncovered it.’
