Accountants pass judgement on self assessment deadline
Practitioners in droves expected to take part in self assessment filing survey
Thousands of accountants based in practices are expected to take part in an
online survey to gauge the predicted effect of controversial proposals to bring
forward self assessment filing deadlines.
‘All nine institutes are free to use it,’ said ICAEW tax faculty deputy
chairman Paul Aplin. ‘I reckon there could be thousands of responses’.
A group of nine institutes, including the ICAEW, ICAS and ACCA, are lobbying
to persuade HMRC from moving self assessment filing deadlines to earlier in the
year, due to concerns that the move will be unworkable for practitioners.
He said the institutes would get the feedback to HMRC ‘as quickly as
possible’.
‘HMRC have asked us for this. They’re still listening to us.’
