Mohamed Al Fayed, Egyptian-born owner of Harrods, has taken the Inland Revenue to court over his self-assessment tax return. Previously Al Fayed had paid tax under a little known pre-agreed arrangement for resident but non-domiciled wealthy foreigners though the Revenue now required Al Fayed to complete a tax return. The case, being heard in Scotland, was adjourned last week at Fayed’s request.
