KPMG accountant to be called
KPMG accountant to be called
The fraud trial of former media baron
Conrad Black will resume
this week with prosecuting lawyers attempting to show that he lied to
Hollinger International’s audit
committee.
It will also see Marilyn Stitt, an accountant with KPMG in Toronto and
Hollinger’s independent auditor take the stand.
She is expected to discuss her work at Hollinger and give the jury a
‘tutorial’ on financial fraud
Later
Richard
Burt, a former US diplomat who served as the chief negotiator during talks
with the former Soviet Union will take the stand. He was US ambassador to
Germany from 1985 to 1989, and a member of Hollinger International’s board of
directors and audit committee.
Prosecutors are trying to show Black and his co-defendants lied to the audit
committee and that they disguised bonuses as non-compete payments to avoid a tax
hit.
Black, and the other defendants have pleaded not guilty.
