    KPMG advises HBOS on Abbey deal

    A team of KPMG experts has been drafted in to give HBOS advice as to whether it should challenge Banco Santander's £8.1bn bid for Abbey.

    Link: HBOS finance chief to step down

    HBOS chief executive James Crosby is awaiting a report from the Big Four firm this week, with him looking for up to £800m in savings from the merged bank, according to the Independent.

    The team of 30 KMPG staff is currently based at HBOS’s Edinburgh headquarters, and was brought in to look at the figures behind a potential deal last month.
