The company will this week propose a dual-listed company merger with Carnival Corporation, its American rival.

Should it win shareholder approval, Gerald Cahill, Carnivals CFO is expected to retain his position, with Nick Luff, the current FD of P&O making way.

P&O Princess Cruises is valued at around £3.25bn, and a spokesman for the company said the deal was merely a ‘formality’.
