Financial services the most tech-savvy sector

Financial services are the most tech-savvy of all sectors, according to figures from the Department of Trade and Industry.

Financial services businesses lead the way in using technologies such as wireless Local Area Network (LAN) and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), according to the department.

Its International Benchmarking Study 2004 showed that 40% of businesses in the financial sector have implemented a wireless LAN.

Another 44% use VoIP, while 23% use desktop video conferencing.

Ecommerce minister Mike O’Brien said the government was ‘delighted’ that many businesses ‘exploited technology’.

However, he called on those companies that do not utilise it fully to do more.
