Taking Stock - Anyone for tennis with the taxman?
PricewaterhouseCoopers recently hosted a two-day European Inter-Parliamentary tennis tournament at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon. The firm sponsored the event, which featured two British teams headed by Worcestershire MP Sir Michael Spicer. TS wonders if the firm used the event as an opportunity to smooth over relations with government officials after a rash of public spats. One came about after PwC outlined the cost of double tax changes outlined in the last budget – much to the chagrin of number 10. TS wonders whether anyone from the firm saw any suspicious looking Revenue ‘taxbusters’ on patrol at the event – the taxman is targeting corporate events, using cloak and dagger methods to find out who’s on the guest list …
