Fraud probe underway at KPMG’s Melbourne office

A former senior partner in KPMG’s Melbourne office is being investigated by
state police over a fraud believed to involve A$2m (£800,000).

The matter was handed over to Victorian police following an internal
investigation by the firm.

The partner was named by The Age newspaper and had recently resigned
from the firm for reasons ‘unrelated to the matter under investigation’.

A spokesperson for KPMG in Melbourne told The Age a fraud involving
a client had been uncovered and a full internal investigation had been carried
out, but would not confirm which partner was involved.

‘KPMG is not in a position to comment further on any issue that may be the
subject of present or future police investigations,’ the spokesperson said.
