KLegal swoops on Scots firm

McGrigor Donald, one of the largest Scottish law firms, is to merge with KLegal, the legal wing of big five firm KPMG, it was revealed today.

The merged firm will propel KLegal into the top 40 in the UK, with 321 fee earners and a combined turnover of more than Pounds 50m.

Nick Holt, KLegal’s managing partner, said: ‘This deal will help us drive forward our strategy of obtaining critical mass in London and of accessing a pool of top calibre lawyers to service growing client demand.’

McGrigor Donald was founded more than 200 years ago, with 57 partners operating from offices in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and Brussels.

The new firm will carry the KLegal banner in London, but will continue to trade under the McGrigor Donald brand in Scotland and Northern Ireland for the immediate future.

The deal is subject to approval by KPMG’s board, which meets tomorrow (Tuesday 11 December).
