The US Securities and Exchange Commission has taken a first step in the acceptance of international accounting standards in the US. It is taking comments on the standards issued by the International Accounting Standards Committee and raising questions about the infrastructure that would be necessary when issuers and auditors are multinationals providing data in many countries. This marks the first concrete move since agreement was reached late last year to form a worldwide accounting standards body.
