Profile: Seeking a new challenge.

The charity works all over the world responding to emergency situations and helps to rebuild the lives of children and communities suffering from conflict, poverty and disaster.

Children’s Aid Direct is now in its 10th year and is currently working in Kosovo, Macedonia and Sierra Leone.

Cubitt recognised it was an ideal opportunity to improve his team-working skills, network with staff and raise money for charity. Interest from Smith Williamson’s two tax departments was strong – including partners – Kevin had to draw names from a hat in order to select his team.

The eight-strong group divided responsibilities for training and fundraising between them with each team member targeting different areas. Fundraising is underway with sponsorship from the firm and offers of support from clients and other events. ‘Conventional fundraising had to give way to creativity – although the prospect of tax advisers clad in fancy dress holding meetings with our clients was ‘very tempting,’ said Kevin.

‘We are organising quiz nights and are planning a barge night with a fun casino theme. Both the group and our clients have been very generous with offers of money and support.’
