English ICA conference: Ward warns on cybercrime
Business should not underestimate cybercrime or security threats, according to English ICA president Graham Ward in his opening speech at the institute's e-commerce conference.
Recalling the chaos caused by ‘The Lovebug’, Ward said: ‘The speed and ease with which this virus took effect showed that the threats of cyber terrorism or cybercrime are very real.’
And Ward warned that companies should not overlook their internal security networks.
‘Many companies are so worried about external e-commerce security that they were not concerned on their own internal networks’, said Ward, referring to the global survey.
He also highlighted high staff turnover in technical departments as a major concern. The new economy means a re-evaluation of what constitutes an asset.
‘The most valuable assets we need to protect intellectual property’, he said.
