Budget 08: Darling announces first carbon budget

Alistair Darling has announced that there will a new carbon budget next year.

Alistair Darling is to introduce a carbon budget to tackle emissions.

The UK is the first country to legislate reductions in emissions with the
climate change bill meaning an overall reduction nationwide of 60% by 2050.
However he announced that he has been in talks with various environmental bodies
and feels that more is needed with a proposed reduction of 80% by 2050.

In order to meet these targets alongside next years budget the chancellor
willl introduce a carbon budget.
