Former ACCA member was jailed in 2001

A former ACCA accountant who was
jailed in 2001 for providing incorrect information to the
Irish Revenue Commissioners managed to sign
off a 2003 company audit report, despite no longer being a registered auditor,
an investigation has revealed.

An investigation by The Sunday
Business
Post found that Carlow accountant Ignatius Forde,
signed an audit report for J Murphy Plant Contractors even though he is not a
registered auditor and is no longer a member of the ACCA.

A copy of the audit report rubberstamped by Ignatius Forde & Company for
J Murphy Plant Contractors of Boherduff, Bagenalstown, Co Carlow was seen by the
paper.

The report states that the audit was conducted in accordance with auditing
standards issued by the Auditing Practices Board and that the accounts give a
‘‘true and fair view’’ of the company’s business for the year to December 31,
2003.

The matter came to light following a Revenue audit.
