European Commission secures auditing agreements in a bid to combat spending fraud

Siim Kallas, EU Commissioner for audit and anti-fraud, has announced he is to
secure auditing cooperation agreements from countries where EU spending-fraud is
most common.

‘They now realise the situation cannot remain unchanged, and in my view they
are ready to accompany the process on an operational basis,’ he told the
European Parliament’s budgetary committee on October 4.

Jules Muis, the commission’s former internal auditor, and a biting critic,
praised its efforts to improve auditing controls.
