Oligarch seeks to buy back TVR from administrators

Nikolai Smolenski, the Russian oligarch who presided over TVR's demise, now wants to buy back the business from administrators

Nikolai Smolenski, the Russian oligarch, has made a surprise bid to buy back
British sports car business TVR
from administrators.

Smolenski was at the helm of the company as it slipped into administration.
The 26-year-old took over TVR in 2004. He split up the company; and the
manufacturing arm of the business, Blackpool Automotive, proceeded to go into
administration before Christmas,
the Sunday
Times
reports
. Smolenski was then forced to give up the TVR
name and intellectual property.

Sources have said that administrators
PKF
had received 30 expressions of interest for the business – including an
offer from Smolenski.

Smolenski’s personal assistant and solicitor did not return calls for
comment.
