Deloitte & Touche Netherlands is to face a probe by the justice ministry
over whether it withheld information about its auditing of Dutch supermarket
group Ahold.
Advocate general Peter Greve announced the probe yesterday, on the first day
of the appeal by three former executives of Ahold.
The three were sentenced to jail terms in 2006 for involvement in the
accounting scandal.
Deloitte was Ahold’s accountants when the accounting scandal struck in 2003.
‘We want to know if Deloitte & Touche staff committed criminal offences,’
Greve told the Financieele Dagblad.
A Deloitte spokesman said the firm had not kept anything back and would
cooperate fully with the investigation.
